Kurt Sabaté has spent forty years stripping gray, weathered wood back to bare boards and washing black mold off block and timber walls with earth friendly detergents. Every job on this page runs the same line: dirty side and clean side, a hard seam between them, no shortcuts on either.

Deck restoration
A 27 or 28 year old deck, a 29 year old neglected deck, boards that have gone the color of old driftwood. Kurt strips the failing finish, washes the wood clean and stains and seals it back to something you would not believe was the same deck.
“We specialize in restoring old-neglected decks.” It is the largest part of the work, and the part Kurt has done longest.

Two more ways the wood on your property gets treated
Cedar and Ipé
A 15 to 20 year old cedar deck, or a dense hardwood like Ipé, does not get treated like ordinary pressure treated pine. Gentler pressure and wood-appropriate cleaning bring the grain back without tearing up the surface fiber.
Deck resurfacing
Some boards are past saving even when the frame underneath is sound. Kurt has laid new pressure treated pine decking straight onto an original 1988 frame rather than tearing the whole structure out.

Walls and walkways get the same wash line treatment
Retaining walls
Pressure treated pine walls and segmental block walls both come through this service. One timber wall hadn't been cleaned in fifteen plus years before Kurt got it back to its natural look. Block walls go “from black mold infestation to good as new,” the mold eliminated with earth friendly detergents, never blasted hard enough to open the joints or expose the soil behind them.
Brick and hardscape
Walkways, patios and steps hold mold and grime in the joints long before it shows on the surface. The center of a brick path goes dark while the edges stay clean, and an even wash across the whole surface is what brings the two back to matching. You can often see the wash line right in the middle of the job.
Old school way of restoring wood
Strip it, wash it, let it dry, then stain and seal it
Gray boards aren't ruined, they're just UV burnt fiber sitting on top of an old failing finish. Kurt strips that layer, washes the deck with earth friendly detergents and gives it time to dry before stain and sealer go back on. A deck that starts graying and losing its sheen again is telling you it's due for the same treatment, not a rebuild.
